A campaign calling for California’s secession from the United States was relegated to the dustbin of history last week when its leader called it quits and announced his intention to move to Russia permanently.

Yes, Russia.

“It is only proper, given my intention to seek permanent residence in Russia and not return to California in the foreseeable future, to withdraw that petition from circulation, and to allow a new petition, free from ties to me and drafted by others, to be resubmitted at future date of their choosing,” wrote Yes California President Louis Marinelli in a farewell statement to supporters.

As County News discussed previously, Marinelli and his supporters already had some pretty steep hurdles to climb
