Humboldt County Supervisor Rex Bohn Talks Success and Challenges Related to Marijuana

Humboldt County has long been synonymous with weed. So when one of its local officials sits down to talk marijuana legalization and the challenges of regulation, people listen.

One such official is Rex Bohn, supervisor for the county’s First District. He recently spoke to Route Fifty staff correspondent Quinn Lisbon at the National Association of Counties annual conference in Franklin County, Ohio. The two talked pot prices and taxation, crime, environmental concerns, and the challenges of marijuana banking.

In addition to some the grave environmental concerns posed by area grows, Bohn says the new county sheriff is prioritizing a crackdown on under-the-influence driving to prevent an increase in DUIs seen in other weed legal states. Bohn even talked the impact on immigrant farmers, many of whom are leaving the dairy farms to work for cannabis cultivators and the county's recent work to step up its number of code enforcement officers.
