Santa Clara Hires New Fire Chief

Santa Clara County has welcomed a new fire chief.

Tony Bowden, a 20-year county fire department veteran who most recently served as assistant fire chief, began his job Monday following an appointment by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. As part of his new role, he will also serve as Santa Clara County Fire Marshall.

Bowden kicked off his career as a Los Altos firefighter in 1996. He went on to serve in every rank of the department, according to the county.

"I was born and raised in this community and have worked for the fire department nearly all of my adult life," Bowden said in a statement. "I am honored the Board of Supervisors has entrusted me with leading County Fire as we serve the community."

The Santa Clara County Fire Department serves all unincorporated areas of the county in addition to Campbell, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and Saratoga.
