Man Who Wished for a Mass Shooting in Siskiyou Taken Into Protective Custody
A McCloud man who made disturbing online statements glorifying mass shootings and wishing for a mass casualty event in Siskiyou County was taken into protective custody last week, Siskiyou authorities said. Firearms found at the residence he shares with his parents were also confiscated.
The 22-year-old made his threats on Snapchat just before the opening of the Siskiyou Golden Fair.
“The message was very disturbing because it referred to mass shootings in a favorable way, idolized the mass shooters, and expressed satisfaction with the victimization of other persons and their families, and the man referred to the hope that such an incident would happen in Siskiyou County," according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The man denied he had any serious intentions to harm anyone. There's no way to verfiy that, according to Sheriff Jon Lopey.
The Siskiyou threats followed a spate of mass shootings in Gilroy, CA, Dayton, OH, and El Paso, TX that have left the country on high alert.
