CA Localities Have at Least 26 Pro-Marijuana Initiatives on the Ballot This Fall
This November could be a bonanza for pot in California. More than two dozen localities have pro-marijuana initiatives on the ballot. It could result in 150 new cannabis business permits within months, according to Hirsh Jain, government affairs director for retailer Caliva, and California NORML Deputy Director Ellen Komp.
Jain told Marijuana Business Daily that there’s a “fundamental shift” underway as local governments see their neighbors taking advantage of cannabis tax revenue. The loss of sales tax revenue as a result of the pandemic has also caused a number of jurisdictions to look at commercial marijuana for the first time.
Voters will weigh in on pot measures in Banning; Calaveras County, Calabasas; Carson; Commerce; Costa Mesa; Encinitas; Fairfield; Hawthorne; Jurupa Valley; Laguna Woods; La Habra; Lemon Grove; Madera; Marysville; Ojai; Porterville; San Bruno; San Joaquin County; Solano Beach; Sonoma; Trinity County; Vacaville; Ventura and Ventura County; and Yountville.
