Governor Newsom Endorses George Gascón for Los Angeles DA

George Gascón has won an important endorsement in his race for Los Angeles District Attorney. On Tuesday, Governor Gavin Newsom threw his weight behind the former San Francisco police chief turned District Attorney of San Francisco.

“This November Angelenos will choose who to turn to as calls to reimagine our dated system of justice grow louder, and I urge them to join me once again in turning to George Gascón,” said Newsom, who appointed Gascón to his last positions when he was mayor of San Francisco.

Jackie Lacey has been L.A. County’s top prosecutor for the past eight years. She has come under fire from social justice and criminal justice reform advocates who say she is too cozy with law enforcement. She was unable to avoid a runoff with Gascón in March and will now face her toughest political challenge yet in November.
