Orange County Mayors Call on Governor to Reopen Disneyland

A group of Orange County mayors are calling on Governor Gavin Newsom to allow the reopening of the Happiest Place on Earth.

Disneyland has been closed for six months. Anaheim and surrounding cities have lost some $1.3 billion.

“It’s a disaster right here,” Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu said at a news conference Wednesday. “How long are you going to keep us closed?” The mayors of Buena Park and Garden Grove were also in attendance.

The governor said Wednesday that the state will be releasing guidelines for theme parks soon. There are many considerations to take into account, including the travel it would encourage from other regions and states.

The economic implications are clear. The Disneyland Resort is Orange County’s largest employer. Before the pandemic, it had around 31,000 workers on its payroll.
