California's School Reopenings Don’t Appear to Be Spreading COVID-19
California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly said data show no link between the reopening of some California schools and the spread of COVID-19 so far. The announcement is encouraging as more school districts move to resume live instruction.
"We have not seen a connection between increased transmission and school reopening or in-person learning,” Ghaly said Tuesday (SF Gate). “We’re looking at the information to see if there is a connection, and so far we have not found one.”
At least 32 of the state's 58 counties are eligible to resume in-person learning to date. But many classrooms are still closed. According to EdSource’s tracker, 402 districts representing 40.73% of students are still required to use distance learning unless granted a waiver, available only for grades K-6.
