Marin is California’s ‘Healthiest’ County, But It Has the Bay Area’s Highest COVID Death Rate
Marin is consistently ranked the healthiest county in the state. But, according to a new ABC7 analysis, it has the Bay Area’s highest per capita death rate from COVID-19.
The analysis did not include data from San Quentin Prison. Rather, the high death rate appears driven by nursing homes. Over 80% of coronavirus deaths in Marin have occurred in long-term care facilities. Deaths hit their peak in July.
Among the nine Bay Area counties, Alameda has the second-highest per capita death rate. Sonoma County was a close third.
