Kern County Deputy Killed in Wasco Standoff
A Kern County sheriff’s deputy was among five people killed in a standoff in Wasco on Monday following a domestic violence dispute.
Sheriff Donny Youngblood has confirmed the death of Deputy Phillip Campas, 35, a five-year veteran of the department and a Marine veteran who had served in Afghanistan. Two other deputies were wounded by shrapnel.
The suspect was armed with an AK-47 rifle and a handgun, authorities said. He was later killed by deputies.
Wasco Mayor Alex Garcia has ordered the lowering of flags at City Hall.
