CA Employment Dips Again in October

California’s unemployment rate rose to 4.8% last month — a 0.1 point percentage increase from the previous month.  The decrease came in spite of an additional 40,200 nonfarm payroll jobs.

Financial activities was the only sector to see a reduction (-300) in jobs. California’s 10 other industry sectors saw gains, with private education and health services leading the way (+13,200).

Below are some breakdowns by county.

Counties with the highest unemployment 

  1. Imperial (19.3%)
  2. Tulare (9.6%)
  3. Colusa (8.8%)
  4. Merced (7.8%)
  5. Kern (7.5%)

Counties with the lowest unemployment 

  1. San Mateo (3.2%)
  2. San Francisco (3.4%)
  3. Napa and San Luis Obispo (3.5%)
  4. Inyo, Marin and Sonoma (3.6%)
  5. Orange and Santa Barbara (3.8%)
