Butte County Firefighting Efforts Plagued by Extreme Heat

A fire near Oroville in Butte County had burned 3,000 acres and forced thousand of evacuations with 0% containment as of Wednesday morning.

The Thompson Fire broke out Tuesday at around 11 a.m. Over 500 personnel are battling the blaze. 

Firefighting efforts are complicated by an ongoing heatwave, which has resulted in red flag warnings across the state. For the next four days, daytime temperatures in Oroville will range between 111° and 114°.

Two evacuation shelters have been set up:

Gridley, California 95948

Small animals can be taken to 2279 Del Oro in Oroville. A shelter for large animals, Camelot, is located at 1985 Clark Rd.
