Apple Fire Forces Thousands of Evacuations in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties
A wildfire burning near Oak Glen has scorched more than 20,000 acres since Sunday and is just 5% contained. Over 7,000 people have been evacuated in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Officials have set up an evacuation center at Beaumont High School.
Some 1,300 firefighters have been deployed to assist. They’re having trouble accessing rugged hillsides and are up against dry heat and vegetation.
The devastation from the Apple Fire comes as the Inland Empire — and much of the state — battles a surge in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations.
In addition to the Apple Fire, crews are battling blazes in the counties of Los Angeles, Colusa, and Lassen.
