LA health officials caution vigilance as some states sees Covid rise

The pandemic is yielding mostly good news here in California, but other states are seeing an increase. That has prompted officials in LA County to advise vigilance as spring celebrations roll around.

Michigan, Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Arizona, New Jersey, New York, and Florida are among those experiencing an increase in infections. The increase is driven by the UK’s variant, B.1.1.7, and a general relaxation of public health restrictions. Fortunately, many senior citizens have been vaccinated, which has helped keep hospitalization rates stable.

LA County health officials are closely watching the numbers in other states.

“We are so close, perhaps only several months away from having enough people vaccinated to accelerate our reopening without adverse effects,” said LA County Public Health Officer Barbara Ferrer. “However, we remain quite concerned with reports of rising cases of COVID and hospitalizations in a growing number of states. We know the virus does not respect borders.”
