Shasta County Sheriff Named Assistant CEO

Eric Magrini is stepping down from his role as Shasta County Sheriff next week after less than two years on the job. The county’s top cop — who made headlines for refusing to enforce pandemic restrictions on businesses — has been appointed Assistant CEO.

Magrini began his career in law enforcement 23 years ago as a police officer in Red Bluff. He joined the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in 2006, working his way up to undersheriff. He was appointed sheriff in December 2019.

The county says it conducted an extensive recruitment process before selecting Magrini. CEO Matt Pontes said Magrini has plenty of administrative experience and that his knowledge will come in handy as the county works to develop a modernized detention facility with a large mental health component.

Magrini's first day on the job is June 20.
